Campus tradition has raised more than $2.5 million to benefit 850 students
The campus community will unite Oct. 21 to support student scholarships as part of the 16th annual Chancellor’s Challenge 5K Run/Walk for Scholars. Led by Chancellor Marye Anne Fox, the event is a campus tradition that has raised more than $2.5 million for undergraduate scholarships since it was established in 1996, benefiting 850 ambitious and motivated students UC San Diego.

Jim Ruby, UC San Diego’s vehicle fleet manager, has won a “Sustainability All-Star” award from Green Fleet magazine in recognition of his efforts to establish one of the greenest fleets in the nation.
Ruby received the award Oct. 4 at the 2011 Green Fleet Conference partly in recognition of the innovative ways in which he has contributed to reducing the emissions and fuel consumption of vehicles in the campus fleet.

UC San Diego Partners with Sweetwater Education Foundation
Newly admitted students from the Sweetwater Union High School District met with staff from Oasis, Financial Aid, Admissions and other UC San Diego offices Friday to learn about the various campus resources that help students succeed. UC San Diego partnered with the Sweetwater Education Foundation to form a new learning community for these students, many of whom are funded by scholarships from the California Access Foundation.
