Working on stem cell research is a lot like standing on a beach looking at an undiscovered continent. You can see mountain ranges, forests and rivers in the distance. You know great resources are awaiting on the horizon. But you need to explore to figure out the best path to get there. That’s how Larry Goldstein, the director of UC San Diego’s Stem Cell Program, explains what he and his colleagues on campus are trying to do.
