February 18, 2016 — The long-awaited Geisel Library café won’t open its doors until spring 2016, but, already, it’s earned an “A.” But, this “A” is not the coveted grade, it’s for Audrey, specifically Audrey Geisel, the generous benefactor of the University of California, San Diego Library for whom the new café will be named.

February 9, 2016 — On February 24, the University of California, San Diego Library will sponsor Correcting the Course on Climate Change Negotiations: the Road from Paris COP21, featuring climate change policy expert David Victor and students Joaquin Vallejo and Shayla Ragimov, who attended COP21, and will provide their insights on the process and the outcome. The event is free and open to the public and will be held at 5:30 p.m. in the Seuss Room in Geisel Library.

January 13, 2016 — The Chinese and the Iron Road: Building the Transcontinental, produced by the Chinese Historical Society of America and the Chinese Railroad Workers Project at Stanford University, is on display through February 29, 2016 in Geisel Library on the University of California, San Diego campus.

January 7, 2016 — The 2015-16 Holocaust Living History Workshop (HLHW) series continues this January with six compelling authors, films, and other events highlighting the diverse “Holocaust Journeys” of survivors and others recounting their personal stories. Co-sponsored by the University of California, San Diego Library and the UC San Diego Jewish Studies Program, the HLHW lecture series invites local Holocaust survivors, witnesses, relatives, and scholars to share their personal stories and memories with students and interested members of the public.

December 21, 2015 — Papers of the late J. Robert “Bob” Beyster, founder of Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), and a business innovator who developed a successful blueprint for entrepreneurial, employee-empowered companies, are being donated to the UC San Diego Library by the Beyster family

October 16, 2015 — Four undergraduate students at the University of California, San Diego have been awarded the 2015 Undergraduate Library Research Prize in recognition of their superior research skills. The annual award, sponsored by the UC San Diego Library, the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, and the UCSD Alumni Association, recognizes students who have demonstrated exemplary research skills in mining the Library’s rich and diverse information resources and services.

October 15, 2015 — The University of California, San Diego has been named the 11th most ethnically diverse college in the nation, according to a new report. Best College Reviews, a ranking service for American colleges and universities, recently released a list of the top 50 ethnically diverse schools.  Statistics and definitions of race/ethnicity for the list were gathered from the National Center for Education Statistics, Diverse Issues in Higher Education and school websites. According to the report, UC San Diego looks at diversity as an opportunity for education.

October 8, 2015 — For the eighth consecutive year, the University of California, San Diego Holocaust Living History Workshop (HLWH) will host a series of educational events to broaden understanding of the past, foster tolerance, and preserve the memory of victims and survivors of the Holocaust. Co-sponsored by the UC San Diego Library and the UC San Diego Jewish Studies Program, the HLHW will present two fall lectures in its 2015-16 “Holocaust Journeys” series.

September 23, 2015 — The University of California, San Diego Library has acquired the papers of Paul Espinosa, an award-winning independent filmmaker, well known for his documentary and dramatic films focused on the U.S.-Mexican border region, which helped to increase awareness about a host of immigration and cross-cultural issues. Espinosa, who has been the recipient of eight Emmy Awards for his films, recently retired from Arizona State University, where he was on the faculty at the School of Transborder Studies.

August 17, 2015 — The University of California, San Diego’s 12th annual Dinner in the Library will take place Friday, Sept. 18 in the university’s iconic Geisel Library building. The event, which is open to the public, will celebrate the theme “Building for the Future,” with proceeds supporting the UC San Diego Library’s collections, services and learning spaces. Festivities will include dinner and cocktails, a silent auction and a keynote talk from Sarah Thomas, vice president for the Harvard Library.
