A team of 127 co-authors led by UC San Diego faculty from computer science and the Skaggs School of Pharmacy report in Nature Biotechnology on the successful rollout of Global Natural Products Social Molecular Networking (GNPS) that lets scientists share mass spectrometry data worldwide to speed the search for potentially valuable molecules in natural products.

Glioblastoma is a highly aggressive form of brain cancer with a survival rate generally less than 16 months. With no effective treatments available, a team including researchers from the San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC) at UC San Diego and John Wayne Cancer Institute at Providence Saint John’s Health Center sought to uncover several underlying molecular networks that may yield attractive therapeutic targets for this deadly disease.

The University of California is first in the Top 100 Worldwide Universities Granted U.S. Utility Patents Ranking for 2015. The report, which was released today, is published by the National Academy of Inventors (NAI) and Intellectual Property Owners Association (IPO). A recent study by BestColleges.com analyzing which colleges enroll and graduate women with majors in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) found that the University of California San Diego tops the list with one in three women graduating with a STEM degree.
