Annual event to be held June 6 benefits student scholarships at UC San Diego

In the early morning hours of Saturday, June 6, more than 3,000 members of the UC San Diego community will gather in support of student scholarships by participating in the 19th annual Triton 5K and Festival. Over the years, the 5K has raised more than $3.9 million in scholarships benefiting more than 1,000 deserving students.

“Raising funds for student scholarships and fellowships is a key priority at UC San Diego,” says Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla. “We are a student-centered university, committed to broadening the path to education and providing the best possible academic experience for our students. The Triton 5K supports our goals and is a favorite campus tradition.”

“The Triton 5K Chancellor’s Scholarship not only alleviates the financial stress on my family and me, but motivates me to continue progressing forward with my academic pursuits and giving back to my community,” says Kuang. “The scholarship has fueled my desire to one day contribute to finding a balance between preserving the environment while advancing the growth of technology.”

The Triton 5K will begin at 9 a.m. on Ridge Walk near Spanos Loop and will continue on a new and improved course through the heart of campus. Participants can run or walk the 3.1 mile course. The Triton 5K is sanctioned by USA Track and Field (USATF) and will feature wave starts with participants grouped according to pace, ensuring ample space for everyone to complete the race at their own comfort level. Additionally, the course is stroller and pet-friendly. All participants will receive an official Triton 5K T-shirt and a gear bag.
