Triton Days Invites Newly Admitted Students to Explore UC San Diego’s Limitless Possibilities

This spring, a new wave of students will be welcomed to UC San Diego at Triton Days, an annual showcase of all that the campus has to offer. More than 25,000 newly admitted students and their families are expected to attend. Admitted freshmen will explore the campus at Triton Day on Saturday, April 8, while Transfer Triton Day will occur on Saturday, May 6. The events will include a full day of activities that will entice prospective students to choose UC San Diego.

“Every year, UC San Diego recruits some of the most academically talented students in the world, and Triton Days are an opportunity for them to experience the culture of collaboration and innovation that drives our campus to excel,” said Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla. “Thanks to the enthusiasm of countless students, staff and faculty, UC San Diego is proud to share its expansive ocean-view campus, dynamic academic community, cutting-edge research and endless resources with a new generation of potential Tritons and their families.”

Volunteers welcome admitted students and their families to UC San Diego

The full itinerary of Triton Day events kicks off at 7 a.m. with early bird campus tours, followed by all-campus welcome sessions, as well as residential college tours and information sessions. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., attendees will be able to explore residence and dining halls, academic departments, student services and student organizations through information fairs, tours and open houses, entertainment and more. Triton Day for newly admitted freshmen coincides with the 39th Annual Cultural Celebration at Thurgood Marshall College, an opportunity to experience world cuisine, dance and music while touring artisan crafts from local merchants and vendors and playing fun games from around the world.

Additionally, admitted students and their families will have the opportunity to visit the “Microsoft Experience” tent to enjoy the gaming lounge and learn about Microsoft technology, including new apps and products. Here, they can decide to commit to UC San Diego by signing their Statement of Intent to Register (SIR).

Following Triton Day, the campus will host the Triton 5K on Sunday, April 9, where all UC San Diego community members are encouraged to join newly admitted students and their families in the 21st annual event. Registration is free for newly admitted students and discounted for family members. Proceeds from the event support student scholarships and contribute to the Campaign for UC San Diego.

Both Triton Days and the Triton 5K will be staffed by hundreds of campus volunteers, whose efforts will play an instrumental role in providing newly admitted students and their families with a memorable first experience at UC San Diego. Faculty, staff and students from the six undergraduate colleges, academic departments and programs, student support services, student organizations and extracurricular/enrichment programs are encouraged to serve as volunteers to provide attendees with a comprehensive introduction to the UC San Diego community. If you are interested in volunteering, please register here.
