The Design Lab at the University of California San Diego, under the direction of founder Don Norman, has received a $250,000 gift from global communications company, Viasat Inc. (NASDAQ: VSAT). The investment will support efforts at the Design Lab’s Center for Design-Driven Transformation (CDDT) to assist companies in using leading-edge design tools and perspectives to stay competitive in an ever-changing business landscape. Viasat was founded by Mark Dankberg and two UC San Diego alumni, Steve Hart and Mark Miller.

Andrew J. Viterbi, a renowned pioneer in the communications world, is creating a lasting legacy in health care through a philanthropic gift of $50 million to the University of California San Diego. Inspired by his father, an ophthalmologist, Viterbi’s gift will name The Viterbi Family Department of Ophthalmology and The Viterbi Family Vision Research Center, and create six new endowed chairs for faculty. His generous support is dedicated to advancing research, education and eye care. The gift contributes to the Campaign for UC San Diego, the university’s $2 billion fundraising effort.

UC San Diego and Spin Showcase Strong Bikeshare Pilot Program Results

The University of California San Diego and Spin, the dockless personal mobility company, are announcing the results of a bikeshare partnership pilot program which was created to provide more than 36,000 students, faculty and staff with an affordable, equitable and eco-friendly way to get around campus. The pilot, which launched in December 2017, is part of a university-wide initiative to become carbon-neutral by 2025.

UC San Diego Celebrates ‘Science Nonfiction’ at Comic-Con
