April 30, 2014 — When Brayden Burge was 15 months old, his parents noticed a significant drop in his skills and a sudden increase in illness. Brayden was taken to the University of California, San Diego Health System and diagnosed with mitochondrial disease.

April 1, 2014 — SPARK Gala, hosted by University of California, San Diego Moores Cancer Center, will rally the region to help make the future brighter for patients with cancer. Slated for Saturday, April 26 at the Hyatt Regency La Jolla at Aventine, the evening will feature a cocktail and wine-tasting reception, dinner and special performance by award-winning R&B singer and actress Heather Headley.

That’s why the couple recently pledged a gift of $1.2 million to the campus for student support through their charitable Timmstrom Family Fund. The gift will be split, per the donors’ wishes, to support graduate students in the Jacobs School of Engineering and undergraduates through the Chancellor’s Associates Scholars program.

March 17, 2014 — The University of California, San Diego will host the second annual Breakfast with Champions on Friday, March 21 from 8 to 10 a.m. at the La Jolla Country Club. The event, which is open to the public, features conversations with Pro Football Hall of Fame inductees Mike Haynes and Charlie Joiner. All proceeds will benefit prostate cancer research at UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center.
