September 21, 2015 — The theme for the University of California, San Diego’s 10th annual California Native American Day celebration is “Unsettled Stories: Reclaiming This Land,” and will include a kickoff event Sept. 25 as well as an undergraduate research symposium, a Native American film festival, spoken word performances, a powwow and more throughout the 2015-16 academic year.

August 31, 2015 — 2013 M.F.A. graduate Joshua Brody wins a Princess Grace Award that he will apply toward a 12-month apprenticeship at La Jolla Playhouse.

August 17, 2015 — The University of California San Diego, Division of Arts and Humanities announces the appointment of acclaimed set designer Robert Brill as the newest faculty member in the top-ranked Theatre & Dance Department.

May 29, 2015 — Composer Rand Steiger, currently chair of the UC SanC Diego department of music, is known for pushing the boundaries and exploring the combination of classical instruments with digital audio processing. Throughout his diverse career he has composed for and conducted critically acclaimed concerts and recordings with distinguished ensembles both here and abroad. In support of his teaching, research and service activities, Steiger has been appointed the inaugural holder of the Conrad Prebys Presidential Chair in Music in the Division of Arts and Humanities.

May 1, 2015 — On Saturday, May 2 and Sunday, May 3, the La Jolla Symphony & Chorus will premiere The Moon in La Jolla, the 2015 winner of the prestigious Nee Commission Award. In addition to the classic orchestral ensemble, the UC San Diego Library’s carillon, which sits atop Geisel Library, will make its debut in the La Jolla Symphony performances via telematic technology.

April 28, 2015 — Two UC San Diego faculty members – philosopher Patricia Smith Churchland and physicist and neurobiologist David Kleinfeld – have been elected to the 2015 class of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

April 20, 2015 — Attorney E. Randol Schoenberg was able to accomplish what few thought was possible— He recovered Gustav Klimt’s famous “Golden Lady” painting, which was stolen by the Nazis in 1938. Schoenberg’s experiences are the subject of a newly released movie, Woman in Gold, which he will discuss at the May 6 Holocaust Living History Workshop (HLHW) event, sponsored by Phyllis and Daniel Epstein. HLWH is a collaboration between the UC San Diego Library and the Jewish Studies program.

February 24, 2015 — Late last year, two University of California, San Diego students set out for Florence, Italy, to diagnose a patient that had no prior medical record, couldn’t be poked or prodded in any way, and hadn’t been in prime condition for more than 800 years.

January 29, 2015 — The University of California, San Diego is celebrating a century of black life, history and culture as part of the campus’s 2015 recognition of Black History Month. Events throughout February and March include art exhibits, lectures, film screenings, spoken word performances and the annual Black History Month Scholarship Brunch on Feb. 28 featuring special guest speaker, Giancarlo Esposito. Esposito is an Emmy Award-nominated actor whose credits include the television series “Breaking Bad” and “Revolution” as well as films, such as “Malcom X” and “The Usual Suspects.”
