Triton Day Overnight Programs Share Campus Insights with Undergraduates

For selected admitted students, including those who are the first in their family to attend college or are unfamiliar with university life, getting the chance to spend an extended period on campus before the academic year begins can provide invaluable insight.

Prior to Triton Day, UC San Diego offers a variety of invitation-only overnight programs in which participants live with a host student mentor and are integrated into everyday life on campus, from visiting classes to touring academic departments and interacting with student organizations.

Scholars Society Overnight Program

This is an overnight program for admitted Regents Scholars to experience what life is like as a Scholar at UC San Diego. Participants take part in a variety of activities including lab tours, interaction with faculty, student panels, student performances and dinner. Students are housed on-campus overnight with a current UC San Diego Scholar.

• Dates: Friday, April 8, 2016 - Saturday, April 9, 2016

Three-Day, Two-Night Programs

These programs target admitted California first generation college students and students from fourth and fifth quintile schools. Freshmen are invited to experience life at UC San Diego, network with other admitted high school seniors and current college students, and learn about campus resources. Participants are paired with a current UC San Diego undergraduate who serves as their host and mentor.

• Dates: Thursday, April 7 - Saturday, April 9, 2016
• Tracks: Black Student Union (BSU) Overnight Program, Jacobs School of Engineering (JSOE) Overnight Program and Student-Initiated Access Programs and Services (SIAPS) Overnight Program
• Sponsor: Southwest Airlines has generously donated 50 roundtrip tickets to UC San Diego to bring select students from Northern California to San Diego for Triton Day activities; a majority of the tickets will be used for the Overnight Programs.

“We invite young people onto campus so they have the opportunity to experience the life of the institution, to feel what it would be like to be a student here, to see who their peers would be,” explained Becky Petitt, Vice Chancellor of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion. “The overnight experience, as well as Triton Day, has been really impactful in increasing our yields.”
