UC San Diego Chancellor Pradeep K. Khosla released the following statement today on the announced planned retirement of University of California President Mark G. Yudof:
“President Mark G. Yudof has been the right leader at the right time for the University of California. He has adeptly led our 10 campuses through an extraordinary, yet challenging, era. He masterfully preserved the excellence and prestige of this world-renowned university system, despite having to navigate our campuses through unprecedented state funding cuts. He has worked to ensure access and affordability for our students and their families, initiating the Blue and Gold Opportunity Plan and championing outreach efforts. He is a tireless supporter of the University and higher education, and today remains our strongest, most enduring advocate.
I have been inspired by Mark’s passion for education, and his dedication to serving our students and our state. That commitment to developing the talents of the nation’s future leaders drew me to UC San Diego and the UC system. President Yudof has said that he’s in the business of providing opportunity, and he’s spent his career helping people to succeed, and I find that truly admirable.”
