More than 130 physicians from UC San Diego Health System were named “Top Docs” in the annual San Diego Magazine “Physicians of Exceptional Excellence” annual survey. These physicians represent 47 diverse specialties from internal medicine to oncology, obstetrics, cardiovascular and surgical care.

“UC San Diego Health System is honored to be recognized for its expertise in a wide array of medical and surgical specialties,” said Paul Viviano, CEO, UC San Diego Health System. “This designation is a helpful tool for patients who are seeking care for a chronic condition or who simply need guidance in selecting a primary care physician. Whether having a baby, getting a routine exam or undergoing a lifesaving surgery, our patients are in the capable, compassionate hands of physicians who are leaders in both clinical practice and research.”

The “Top Docs” are named each year by physician peers who are members of the San Diego County Medical Society. Members are asked to vote for board-certified physicians practicing in San Diego County to whom they would refer their own patients and family members. This year, 140 physicians were ranked “Top Docs” in 47 specialties. Eleven physicians within this group rank in more than one specialty.

Recently, UC San Diego Health System was once again ranked among the nation’s best in U.S. News & World Report’s 2013-14 “America’s Best Hospitals” issue. The magazine placed UC San Diego Health System number one in the San Diego metropolitan area with national rankings in 10 specialties, placing it among the country’s most prestigious institutions.

UC San Diego Health System is comprised of UC San Diego Medical Center – Hillcrest, Thornton Hospital, Moores Cancer Center and Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center. Patients who are seeking care at UC San Diego Health System may choose from outpatient clinics in La Jolla, Hillcrest, Downtown, Encinitas, Vista, Scripps Ranch, Kearny Mesa and Chula Vista.

In 2016, UC San Diego Health System will open Jacobs Medical Center, the largest new hospital project in southern California. The 10-story, 509,500-square-foot expansion of UC San Diego Health System’s La Jolla campus will offer three specialty hospitals, including a Hospital for Cancer Care, Hospital for Advanced Surgery and a Hospital for Women and Infants.
