Speaker J. Craig Venter urges new graduates of School of Medicine to become the leaders of new medical revolution
According to UC San Diego alumnus J. Craig Venter, a world-renowned biochemist, geneticist and entrepreneur, medical research as we know it is at the dawn of a new era. “We are moving from our current ad hoc, sick system to a much more proactive, preventive medicine model together with a precision medicine approach,” Venter said to 115 graduating medical students at the UC San Diego School of Medicine commencement ceremony June 7. The event was one of 11 commencement ceremonies for the 8,364 students who graduated from UC San Diego’s six undergraduate colleges, four professional schools and various graduate programs. The majority of graduation events took place June 13-14.
