Civil Rights Activist Dolores Huerta Serves as Keynote Speaker at Campus Awards Ceremony
Dolores Huerta, United Farm Workers (UFW) co-founder and prolific labor leader and civil rights activist, served as the featured speaker at UC San Diego’s first annual Community Engagement and Service Learning Awards Ceremony April 29. The event, which took place at Great Hall, recognized individuals whose contributions have strengthened communities through academia, service and leadership. Huerta has received numerous awards for her community service and advocacy for the rights of workers, immigrants and women, including the Eugene V. Debs Foundation Outstanding American Award, the United States Presidential Eleanor Roosevelt Award for Human Rights and the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Photos by Alan Decker
