Every year the University of California, San Diego Library, the world’s repository for the original works of Dr. Seuss, holds a campus birthday party to celebrate the March 2 birthday of Dr. Seuss. The party will be held at noon on Monday, March 3, but it’s the UC San Diego Library that is getting the gift--a gift of more than 1500 additional items donated by Audrey Geisel from the personal archive of Theodor Seuss Geisel, better known to the reading public as Dr. Seuss.

Writer and Alumnus Rex Pickett Donates Personal Archive to UC San Diego Library

UC San Diego Alumnus Rex Pickett, known best for “Sideways,” his hilarious, best-selling novel about the exploits of two old college buddies on a wine-enriched road trip, has donated his personal papers to the Library’s Special Collections. The archive includes a wide range of materials—including posters, photographs, and other memorabilia—both from the novel and the wildly popular movie it spawned.

Historian Mark Hanna to Discuss “Pirates in Print” at UCSD Library Jan. 16

UC San Diego historian Mark Hanna, an authority on the rise and fall of pirates during the first British Empire, will deliver a lecture at 1 p.m. on January 16 on “Pirates in Print: Seafaring Treasures of the Mandeville Special Collections Library.” The lecture is free and open to the public and takes place in the Seuss Room in Geisel Library on the UC San Diego campus.

Annual Philanthropic Dinner to Benefit UC San Diego Library Set for Sept. 14

The University of California, San Diego will host its annual Dinner in the Library fundraiser Friday, Sept. 14 at 5:30 p.m. The evening’s festivities—which will take place in the iconic Geisel Library building—will include a gourmet dinner, a silent auction, and a keynote talk on “The Lost Art of Reading” by Los Angeles Times book critic David Ulin.
