UC San Diego LGBT Center Begins 15 Year Anniversary with Transgender Symposium

The UC San Diego Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender (LGBT) Resource Center will begin a year-long celebration of 15 years on UC San Diego’s campus with a transgender symposium on Tuesday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. at the Student Services Center Multipurpose Room on the main campus in La Jolla.

The symposium, entitled “We Cannot Live Without Our Lives: A conversation on Anti-blackness, Trans Resistance and Prison Abolition” focuses on the experiences of trans women and gender non-confirming people of color. Facilitated by Eric A. Stanley, a UC President’s Postdoctoral fellow in Communication and Critical Gender Studies, this historic panel will bring together formerly incarcerated Black trans women and organizers to talk about the specific ways trans women of color are impacted by imprisonment and to highlight strategies of growing prison abolition.

Panelists include CeCe McDonald, Reina Gossett, Janetta Johnson and Miss Major. The panel is preceded by a reception at 6 p.m., hosted by UC San Diego’s LGBT Faculty and Staff Association. The panel is free and open to the public. Please use the Gilman Parking Structure. Parking and map information is at
